How Szadurski Law handles personal information collected through this website and initial inquiries.
About this policy
Szadurski Law respects your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use, disclose and protect personal information when you visit szadurskilaw.com or contact us about our services. This policy covers the website and initial inquiries; additional information about client records may be provided during intake or engagement. Personal information means information about an identifiable individual. We handle it in accordance with applicable Canadian privacy law, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), where applicable and the Law Society of Ontario, and our professional confidentiality obligations.
Information you provide
Our website inquiry form asks for your name, email address and a brief description of your inquiry. A telephone number is optional. We also receive information you choose to provide when you contact us by email or telephone.
The website’s consultation buttons open your email application so that you can write to us. Information you send this way is transmitted through your email provider and our email services. Submitting an inquiry does not, by itself, establish a solicitor-client relationship. Please avoid sending confidential documents or sensitive details until we have discussed an appropriate way to share them.
How we use personal information
We use inquiry information to respond to you, assess whether we may be able to assist, arrange consultations and manage related communications. We may request additional information for conflict checks or client intake. We may also use information to operate and secure our website, troubleshoot communications, address privacy concerns and meet applicable legal and professional obligations.
We seek consent where required for collecting, using or disclosing personal information. Where a new purpose requires consent, we will seek that consent before using the information for that purpose. You may contact us to ask about withdrawing consent, subject to legal and contractual restrictions and reasonable notice. We will explain any effect this may have on our ability to assist you.
Website and communications services
Hostinger hosts our website and its backups in the United States. We also use Hostinger’s content delivery network (CDN) to deliver cached website content through servers in multiple countries. We use service providers to support website operation, accessibility, consent management and email delivery. These providers may process information as needed to provide their services, including technical information such as an IP address, browser information, access records and delivery records.
Website inquiry emails are routed through Elementor’s Site Mailer service to the firm. Delivery records help us investigate missing or delayed messages. Site Mailer provides delivery logs for 30 days; message-content logging is turned off in our settings. Copies received by the firm are retained separately as correspondence.
We serve the website’s design fonts from our own hosting. The website uses Elementor’s accessibility service, with widget-usage analytics turned off. An optional Hostinger Reach resource, associated with email marketing features, is configured to load only after you allow the Advertising category in cookie preferences. When your browser requests external resources, the relevant provider receives technical connection information needed to respond to the request. Choosing a cookie category does not subscribe you to a mailing list.
Service providers may process or store information outside your province or Canada. Information processed in another jurisdiction may be subject to that jurisdiction’s laws and lawful access requirements.
Cookies and similar technologies
Our website uses a consent-management tool to present cookie choices and remember your preferences. Cookies and similar technologies, including local and session storage in your browser, support website operation, security, accessibility preferences and optional features. Our hosting and security providers may use cookies or other browser checks to distinguish legitimate visits from automated traffic and protect the website. These checks may vary depending on the request and security conditions. Accessibility tools may remember display settings in your browser, and WordPress uses browser storage to check support for displaying emojis. Consent records include an identifier, the date, country, consent status and the preferences selected. The consent tool is configured to ask for a new choice after 180 days; this preference period is separate from the retention of consent records.
You can review or change your selections using the Cookie preferences link in the website footer. You can also manage cookies through your browser settings. Restricting cookies may affect some website functions. Choosing cookie preferences does not withdraw information you have already sent to us by email or through an inquiry.
Separate client intake and external links
If we invite you to complete a separately supplied intake form, that form is provided through a separate service. It is not the website inquiry form. Please review the information accompanying the invitation and the service’s privacy information before submitting your details.
Links to LinkedIn or other third-party websites take you to services governed by their own privacy policies. This policy applies to Szadurski Law’s handling of information and does not replace those third-party policies.
Disclosure of personal information
We do not sell personal information. We disclose information to service providers as needed for the purposes described in this policy, with your consent where required, or as permitted or required by law. Disclosure remains subject to applicable confidentiality and professional obligations.
Retention and security
We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected and to meet applicable legal, professional and recordkeeping requirements. The appropriate period depends on the type of record, whether an inquiry becomes a client matter and any continuing obligations or dispute. Information may remain in routine backups until those backups are replaced or expire.
We use reasonable safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information. No website, email system or method of electronic storage can guarantee complete security. Please keep initial inquiries brief and avoid sending sensitive information until we have discussed a suitable way to share it.
Access, correction and privacy questions
Fil Szadurski is the firm’s privacy contact. You may contact him to ask about this policy, request access to or correction of your personal information, or raise a privacy concern. We may need to verify your identity before responding. Requests are subject to applicable legal and professional obligations and exceptions, including obligations to protect other people’s information and privileged material. We generally respond to written access requests within 30 days, subject to extensions or exceptions permitted by law. If an extension is required, we will provide the notice required by law. Where a request cannot be fulfilled, we will explain the applicable reason, where permitted. You may also raise a privacy complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
